Dave,
My filter is stamped on the lid Packard Oil Filter. I can get some better pcitures later as I took this one awhile ago. Also remember this filter has "INLET" stamped on the bottom and "OUTLET" stamped on the side. So even though this came with my '54, and I pretty sure this was a pre-war left over that was either owner or dealer installed.

Kev, why do you think it's a pre-war left-over? And not factory installed? The type font of the marking seems similar or the same as the one I observed.

Because of the reversed inlet and outlet ports. This, and it's overall appearance is identical to one of the pre-filter that was discussed in a prior thread a week or two ago. Plus it was not plumbed for Bi-pass operation.

Owen,
My 41 Clipper had an after market oil filter on it when I bought it. I replace it with a period Packard filter. The insert filter that fits it is a "Fram Oil Filter C134PL." I find them at farm supply stores for $5.00-7.00. Hope that helps. DanL

NAPA has them too. . . NAPA 1080. I guess it was a standard size for many early filters. Why they got away from an industry standard, I'll never know.
