These distributors are painted and achieve their ground connection thru the hold down bracket which is not painted.

I must have bad luck, because the Packard Delco and the Delco on my Cad isn't painted either? Both are original.

Packards International has had an authenticity manual for many years. The engine compartment section of the current guide is listed as being 50 pages. The club doesn't seem to be as active as they once were for swap meets etc but the manual is listed as available thru the website -- although the latest revision on their website seems to restrict it to members.
I agree that it is a shame that PAC does not seem to have ever had one or at least worked out some arrangement with PI to sell theirs. Apparently the old rivalries that resulted in the split and two clubs being formed in the 60s has not been overcome even with so many of the original players gone.

Distributor body colors per the PI Engine Room Judging Guide:
1929-34 Northeast, wrinkle black 1932-39 Twelve, gloss black All others, semi-gloss black
