It's funny how most dictators had Packards. Except for Hitler. No accounting for taste.

Wasn't the original owner Tito Puente? I don't think communists had new cars.

Joe - Tito was one of many Communists that had (ahem) Capitalist taste in cars.
Besides the Packard, which he kept, other cars in his "stable" included 3 Mercedes 600 Limousines. Tito's lavish lifestyle caused no small amount of turmoil and dissidents were quickly - and usually brutally - jailed.

"Owen_Dyneto" supplied us with more photos of Tito's Packard. Also, "Disaffected Musings" snapped shots of Packards at Hershey this past weekend.

For someone who could probably have wrangled any car it is curious he opted for a "lesser" model. I would have thought a Custom Eight would have been more fitting his lifestyle or could it be the choice of the Super was more to show he was still one of the people.

Indeed! At the original post, there is a photo of him walking in front of the Packard during a parade on a state visit. No barricades, either.

It occurred to me that availability (or lack thereof) of the Custom Super Eight Victoria might have been a reason behind the selection of the Super Eight.

In later years, he had three Mercedes 600s in his "stable".
