Is there anyway to tighten up the play in the steering box without tanking it apart once the adjustment screw bottoms out?
Thanks
Richard

Depends on where the play is. Have you read and followed the instructions for box adjustment in 1934 Service Letters?

Yes, but can't find the second adjustment screw. Going to put it up on the lift and look some more.

Remember, DO NOT use grease in it, it can channel away from the gear surfaces as the turn, leaving them naked of lube on subsequent turns. Use GL-1 gear oil.

Sure the slop isn't in the drag link?

If ur sure its in the BOX
-See i there is Back&Forth play in the output shaft/pitman arm (bushing ??)

-Something i always like to do is tighten up the Springs on the Drag link going past factory spec. Makes it a little harder steering but gives u better control. The roads in '34 were ROCK&ROLL so they need this spring shock absorber. AND i have ran into weak springs. Have the spec on them somewhere. Ill get back at ya.
Have also found broken spring

Barry,
The pitman arm was not as tight as I like it, but tightened it up as much as I could and made no difference. I tighten the jam nut as per instructions, it started to get jerky so backed off, still no difference in the play, about one to two inches of play at the steering wheel.
I have decided it is what it is, will drive it with the slop.
Richard

This is the stuff i use

restorationstuff.com/ecommerce/index.php ... _info&cPath=111_112&products_id=710

Think it helps or it might b wishfullthinking BUT it dosent leak as much as reg gear lub. so i guess thats good reason to use. U have to heat it up to get it to pour in. In summer i wrap in plastic bag under the sun.
