"Diego Echavarr?a Misas was a prominent businessman" in Colombia who "was kidnapped and one month later killed on September 19, 1971 by "El Mono" Trejos, leader of a gang in Medell?n." Senior Misas used his Clipper Packard even in the 1970s. If -> this source is to be believed then the car was intended for nobody less than Mohammad Reza Shah, the last Emperor of Iran, who didn't like its green color.

I do believe the Columbian sites have identified the car incorrectly. I am not up on the subtle differences between a Custom or Deluxe Super Eight which might be visible in the photos so will leave to the experts as to which model limo that might be but since there were no Clippers of any type in 48 22nd series believe we can all agree it is not a Clipper.

Appears based on the front bumper, body side trim and some interior trim details to be a 22nd Series which alone would preclude it from being a DeLuxe Super. Assuming its not a mongrel creation, a Custom 8 it is. But the hubcaps are incorrect and the steering wheel appears to not be a Custom 8 wheel, should be ivory (like the directional signal plastic).

Odd choice of color for a limousine, is that Golden Green or Aztec Green? Unless that interior was a special order, it must have been reupholstered, looks like that polyester 'mouse fur' that's substituted when the cost of the quality broadcloth is quoted.

An easy way to remember the how of the long wheelbase cars is: There were only four 23rd Series lwb cars built, all of which were 141" wb Super Eights. Only one is accounted for so any others encountered are 22nd Series models.

If it has an eggcrate grille it has to be a 148" wb 22nd Series Custom Eight. There were no 23rd Series '49-'50 Custom or Super Deluxe lwb cars built.

If it has the horizontal grille, it has to be a 141" wb Super Eight. Of those, they were all 22nd Series production but may be re-numbered cars since it took almost to the 24th Series introduction to sell all of them.

Finally, this unhappy episode affectively killed off the lwb program which had been a major part of the luxury image. Notwithstanding the '53-'54 lwb cars, which by Mr. Neal's text were even more of a slow-selling disappointment to management.

Steve

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Not always easy to identify colors without seeing it directly but I took it to be Golden Green Metallic.
