That winged emblem is a '38 item...

The 1939 Twelve formal sedan pictured in post #13 is the first 1939 Twelve formal sedan, VN 1232-2001. I mentioned it was built, as were many 1939 Twelves, on a leftover 1938 body. In fact, its body serial number or theft-proof number is considerably earlier than Colin's 1938 Twelve formal sedan, not entirely an uncommon situation with 1938 Super 8s and Twelves and 1939 Twelves, all sharing the same coachwork.
Perhaps this bears on the trunk lid emblem question?

blue40devil, in terms of location of the trunk lid emblem, perhaps this image from the 1939 Twelve formal sedan #2001 will prove useful to you as you await your response from flackmaster.

I am shooting from the hip as I am too lazy to get up and grab the parts book. I know the 37 emblem doesn't have the wings, and thought the winged version was '38....but certainly its a nice piece of jewelry if indeed correct or desired for a 39. If you'd like one, just lemme know and I'll look in the trophy case....

Hi Dave
The list is on its way to you! I'll give you 3 months to complete it and if you fail, the container will be on its way 😂 Still trying to figure out if it's a 1938 or 39? There are no holes on the boot lid so, did it not have one or how was the badge attached? Stay safe. Colin

Colin, that your car has a decal for the vehicle number plate rather than a metal plate confirms without question that it's a 1938. The gray painted dashboard is a confirming feature.
I don't have a parts list handy to check and could certainly be incorrect but I was under the impression that the trunk lid emblem shown on the 1939 formal sedan was a 1939 feature.

I looked at the parts book and the wingless one is 15th series only. Part number 235097, for the base
The '38 one is 235961 and has wings and it is the same part number as the '39. All 3 series (15,16 and 17) use the same emblem 235096. I looked at my car and found no holes in the outer trunk lid but a large and smaller hole in the trunk lid inner. My car does not appear to have been repainted and there is no evidence of filling in of any holes in the outer skin.

The trunk emblem must certainly be an accessory. You don't see it on many of the cars.
