Joe! Congrats on the finish! I appreciate all the documentation you've done of your build. I've spent more hours than I care to admit going through the build and gaining inspiration. Thanks so much for taking the time to show us all the steps. And thanks for helping me out with my own build.

Why two batteries? I just installed an Optima 6v and it turns over fine. I am now trying to figure out how to get fuel to the carb after sitting for three years.

The 2 6V Optimas are about the same size as the original battery box. Worked great on 6V. Also had potential plans to convert to 12V for AC. Was able to re-jumper the 2 for 12V for the AC conversion last summer.

Some friends of mine saw this car at a show in TN and sent me some pictures. It is very nicely done. I'm sure that some folks are upset that it was not allowed to just rot away or that it should have been uneconomically restored to original. To each his own!

Good Morning...Any restoration that keeps a Packard on the road, or returns one to the road is, I believe, acceptable to most of us...Just looking at the body styles is interesting for so many folks who have never seen a Packard! Ernie in Arizona

I like the grille treatment. More attractive than original. Of course there is no bumper. Still very attractive.

My 6V to 12V conversion that I documented here worked fine for 4 years until spinning the original starter on 12V finally broke the cast iron nose off the Delco Remy starter. Replaced it with a Packard 8 12V gear-reduction starter from Vintage Auto Garage.

A tough way to start a trip but you are certainly not the first to have this happen. Fortunately you did not have the large gear reduction starters used with the 356 and there was a simple and readily available option for replacement. Did the small starter bolt right up and does it turn the engine decently?

If it is satisfactory, since original Packard starters are getting more expensive and harder to come by, if the mini starter seems to work well maybe it should be recommended as a part of the changeover rather than just having the original starter modified for 12v operation. Might even be easier to find and cheaper than the cost of the mod and a new 12v solenoid.
