This is off a 56 carribean. Not stamped 900.

What I know the car was shipped over from Hawaii in 1959

Did some admiral put a bendix unit on it.

I thought 56 Sr used Monroe..

I've got 'em both ways.

An early 56 Pat, with chrome-plated steel grille screen, has Monroe.

A late 56 Pat has Bendix. So does my Carib H/T.

Packard literature would have you believe Bendix was used on the Packard models and Monroe on the Clippers. I believe that was the way it was for most of 55 but it would appear it became more mixed on 56 seniors and maybe they used whatever was in greater supply at the time those went down the line. I can't recall seeing a Bendix on a Clipper but maybe some are out there.

"By the book" I believe the seniors were to have Bendix and the juniors were to have Monroe. And by far the many 1956s I've examined agree with that. Yet given the circumstances that Packard found itself in in 1956, and especially late in the year, anything might be possible. And not to mention all the things that might have happened to a car in the years afterwards, conversions of Bendix to Monroe was popular years back.

My own 56 Caribbean, a very late car (#1254), had Bendix.

My '56 400 has Monroe. car only has 7700 orig miles so doubt it was changed. Probably what they had left over at the time. I will check the pump for numbers.

I'm almost positive that this Caribbean has Monroe.

Going to check next time at gerrys.

One thing this pump doesn't have is the shim under spring. Pressure valve.

But since different part number. Spring in valve must be different.

But I know how clip needs to go now.
