The outer housing of the filter is made up of two pcs. that screw together, right hand thread. Once you unscrew the housing there is a standard modern style screw on filter inside, attached to the side with the in / out oil fittings. Standard NAPA available filter.

Attached pictures show a replacement element for the Burr Ripley, NAPA 1522 and if you close you can see the joint in the center of the filter where the two pcs. fit together. Unscrew one pc. from the other to disassemble (right hand thread)and change the internal screw on filter.

On the topic of the Burr-Ripley filters, I have one unused, if anyone is looking for one at a lower price.

Jimw, unclear to me which Burr Ripley filter you have available, L-6, L-8, or EF-2? If L-6 I'm interested. If the two halves screw together, then it's not an L-6.

The L-6 doesn't seem to show the female NPT coupling on the outlet side.

I think they just don't have the fittings installed in the picture.
Another design for an L6 replacement. Separates in the center, not on one end. Closer to the original.

The Burr Ripley I have 1s approximately 7-1/2" long X 4-1/4" diameter with a screw seam at the end toward the rear of the car that is covered by the rearward filter clamp. It has the inlet and outlet both on the same end (aft end).

Sounds like an EF-2, a partial flow unit used prior to 1934 (L-6 and L-8 are full-flow, inlet and outlet at opposite ends, much larger diameter feed and discharge line size).
