Cigar Lighter Socket USB Adapter

Has anyone ever tried a common over-the-counter USB adapter in a 6v positive ground Packard with any success? Since USB is 5v, the only issue might be that there is no facility for making it polarity-less and if none are, one would be easy to make and I am thinking of doing so. Just wanted to be sure it didn’t exist already. The input voltage is not important and it could handle 6 to around 35 vdc without a problem so would work in 12v positive and negative ground cars too.

I don't think you will find any compact adapters that plug into a cigar lighter socket that do not require at least a 12v input and even more doubtful you will find one that will work on positive ground. The circuitry needed to drop and regulate the input voltage to USB 5v output and keep it at very tight voltage and current parameters will be polarity sensitive and wired to only accept a negative ground.

Have you considered something like this?snydersantiqueauto.com/ProductDetail/A-1 ... G-PORT?fromCategory=SearchByKeyword

I already have the technology so that’s not an issue but what I was asking is if anyone has already done it.

I just use one of those 6V pos gnd to 12V neg gnd converters hooked up to a cigarette lighter plug -- USB charger, GPS or hidden AM/FM radio
