Remove Horn Button on '38?

I did a search, but couldn't find how to remove the horn button on our '38 Packard Six.

We tried the pushing in and turning counter-clockwise, but that doesn't seem to work.

We don't see any screws underneath the steering wheel that could possibly hold the horn button in. We don't have a horn ring, just the button.

We're hoping that we won't have to remove the steering column to do this. All we need to do is replace the steering wheel.

If anyone knows how to remove the horn button on a '38 Packard Six Model 1600, please let me know. We would certainly appreciate it very much. We don't want to damage anything during the removal.

Thanks.

Pushing down and twisting CCW should work. There are three spring steel protuberances equally spaced that hold the cap in place.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks for the info.
We'll try it again with even more force than before.
Maybe a little WD-40 will help.

try using a suction cup, such as a small plumber's plunger on the horn button. I've used that technique successfully when I couldn't get the one on my 51 to move.

I have two 1938's. A suction cup works or one of those flat rubber grippers for removing jar tops.

I have attached a PDF explaining my method. It was an extreme case and the photos help explain why.
