The sender is of modern manufacture and welded to the original flange. It was done by TriStarr LLC in Nevada although they did not have the gasket available but I had some in stock already.

One of the projects to start while I’m at the shop is the work on this car and, while the transmission with overdrive is not at the top of the list, I do need to ask the best way to flush it out once drained. The one on the right which has stripped gears is the donor for it’s R11 overdrive to be used on the good transmission on the left. I’m not planning on rebuilding it but just getting it serviceable.
Is there some cleaner in particular that I need so that I can get it ordered? The shop is miles away from anything and I typically don’t have transportation when here so ordering is the best way for me. These transmissions are about the most weight these cheap engine stands can hold in spite their relatively high weight rating. Sure, they can probably hold that weight if it didn't stick out adding leverage to it but that's not how they were designed to be used. Any engines have to be blocked up on the other end for safety. I bought them as a place to begin in making a double-ended stand for straight-6 and straight-8 Packard engines but never got much farther than buying them!

I took a little break this afternoon from moving racks of parts and worked a little on the Henney. Mainly I want to take in the wheels to get the new tires mounted which I’ll need when it comes time to install the rear end. I thought I had three loose wheels so I was going to leave one tire mounted as the spare but in the end it turned out that I had only two so had to remove both fronts.
One thing I would like to do while here is to take out the rear stabilizer as it has very bent connecting rods with one even being bent to a J shape! Taking out the stabilizer will let me see if there is enough swing to remove the broken gas tank bolt which otherwise does not appear that it can be removed. Could you use kerosine to flush the trans?
And wow, those are some heavy duty leaf springs!

Yes, I had thought of that but not sure if kerosene something I can have shipped here. I'll look into it. I already have solvent but I'm afraid that it is so dirty that it will make things worse!
As for the springs, yes, they are massive as is the rear axle. The springs also mount to the outside of the frame which spaces them much farther apart than those on a passenger car and the drums push the wheels out at the back even farther. Not sure of the weight but my former 1951 Henney-Packard was 5,600 lbs and my 1952 was 6,200 lbs!

Got a little more work done today in wire brushing the wheels to get off all the loose stuff and on the two without tires, to make sure that the seating surface is good enough for tubeless tiles. However, I had a thought yesterday that it may have to have tubes as the beauty rings probably won’t seat all the way down with the larger diameter of the tubeless stems so we’ll see what the shop says.
One last wheel was sat aside until tomorrow when I realized that it was past dinner time! I started it but it is the worst one so will take some extra work. On the two with tires, i can only hope that the edge of the rim was protected enough by the tire. The two mounted wheels had 7:00 X 16 6-ply tires but the ones going on are the proper 7.50 X 16 and are 8-ply as that was all I could find that didn’t break the bank. This post just triggered something in my aging brain that I had totally forgotten about. I spent a lot of unnecessary money in obtaining the proper master brake cylinder and far, for more to get it rebuilt due to its extremely weathered condition when I probably already have one somewhere from when I put power brakes into my 1952 Henney-Packard! I forgot all about that but still have the old setup somewhere.

I finished cleaning up the wheels yesterday but have reservations about one of them due to rust on the inside of the valve stem hole. I am not sure where this wheel came from as several were purchased from different sources a few years ago but it probably sat with a flat tire for a long time with the stem in the downward position so water got in with nowhere to go and caused the corrosion. The tires and wheels are now in town being mounted and balanced (I hope) and I asked them to use a sealer on the edges and around the stem but another wheel is on the way from Tucson Packards as I need a fifth anyway as the spare or in case I need it.
I purposely did not paint the wheels even in primer because I thought it was like putting lipstick on a pig! The rest of the car is so rough that they would stand out like sore thumbs. For the same reason, it is getting a nice but very (lighted) pitted cormorant rather an NOS one that I have.
