Ignition Bezel Reproduction - Pricing and Minimum order

Hi all,

Just wanted to follow up on this topic. For this ignition bezel, (pictured), I need a minimum order for 10 pieces and the price is $75 each for a cast piece.

This price does not include the chrome plating. I was told that some were all chrome and some were partially chromed and some brushed.

If there's enough interest to order 10 pieces please let me know and I will setup a pre-order page on my website and we'll get this going.

Thanks
Crin

Probably a good idea to tell what it fits.

I participated in one of these "reproduction co-ops" in the past. A deposit to reserve a part is a good idea to protect you. The deposit can be refunded if you fail to get 10 takers. These projects help our hobby - thanks for doing the work.

Hi again,

Just so we're all on the same page as 'they' say here's what I need to get this produced.

1 - I need 10 paid orders @$75 each.
2 - I need one sample piece that will be used as a template.

The sample piece will NOT be harmed in any way and will be returned in the same condition.

The better the sample piece, the better the reproduced piece.

The process makes an IDENTICAL copy of the sample therefore any imperfections in the sample will be reproduced. If there's pitting then that will be reproduced, etc...

The price is for one cast piece with no plating.

I can setup an order page on my website and take orders if there's enough interest.

The lead time is about 4 weeks from the time I get the sample.

Thanks,
Crin

Am wondering what metal will be used for the casting and am concerned if a buyer will have a reasonable access to chrome plating. I know in some places -- California being one of them -- the EPA has all but extinguished the plating industry and of those shops that remain many will not touch some metals.

I notice some of your other items are beautifully plated. Would you be willing to work something out where the bezels were entirely chrome plated at your end and if so could you estimate the additional cost. Clipper model bezels were all chrome. I suspect Packard model bezels started out the same but had just the flat area where the label is embossed bushed to a slightly duller finish.

If a fully plated bezel could be bought the all chrome face would barely be noticeable in a Packard. If the buyer wanted it to be more correct he could dull the flat surface himself by gentle use of a fine grit wet/dry paper or a rough grit polishing compound.

I will commit to one to get the ball rolling. Here is a photo of the bezel face. The brushed area is the surface outlined in red.

Hi,

I can definitely have them plated. Based on other items of the same relative size, I would say $25 would cover the plating.

That brings the grand total to $100 per piece fully plated.

Thanks,
Crin

All castings are made of a zinc alloy. I've used it for all my castings and have not had anything fail structurally.

Just a quick reminder that we still need a good sample to use as a template.

Note to all, on my car I removed and completely compressed the spring for the starter... this weakens the tension to reduce bezel strain but the switch still stays in place fine... just a bit "jigglier". I suggest that those who worry about strength in the new part try this method.

P.S. I wonder if there are even any left in perfect dimensional condition...
