Atomic Packard Update!

Well here is the latest scoop in the National Museum of Atomic Science and History's 1942 Packard Clipper - stretch 'taxi' ...
SORRY, GUYS. They have not run the engine. I KNOW THAT HURTS DEEPLY (to a website full of Packard Geeks and Grease Monkeys, BUT LAST NIGHT I EMAILED THE MUSEUM DIRECTOR: Jim, After 4 minutes and 43 seconds of posting your Packard Pictures, I have received a question Question: The photo shows men pushing it in place, does the Packard run? Answer: ? THIS MORINNG HE EMAILED A REPLY: Dan, No, we decided not to restore the engine for operations since it poses a problem for internal exhibition. The motor looks like it will run, all painted nice and we are assured it could if we wanted it to but it does not operate presently. Jim *********** SO, as much as all of us would be curious, eager,, chomping at the bit, dying to start this relic, it didn't happen. I don't know the s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d wheelbase id the Clipper, but would not recommend it for downtown parallel parking. THEREFORE, I GUESS they will go back to other forms of transportation ...  DanL

can I get "picky picky"...? Wood-grain on dash and window revels WAY off - door lock buttons wrong (looks like off-the-shelf AutoZone or Pep Boys). GREAT steering wheel; wonder who did that.
Did you guys catch the door latching mechanism visible on the shot thru the center door ? Bet some of you will recognize where THAT came from ! Yeah - looks like a six. Since it was going to hilly country, wonder what the rear axle ratio was ! |
