I would like to make a guess before Mike answers to see if I figured it out. I suspect it is the radiator overflow which has temporarily been diverted into the bucket below.

This was a test installation with an original radiator. The overflow dumped into a 24 ounce plastic container.

Attached is a photo of the belt as it was installed while the engine was being assembled.

Not as much wrap-around on the alternator pulley as I would have liked but I tested it at 100 amps load with NO slippage observed.
