Think you should go for it. He must be getting desperate as he is selling for a loss at this point. With the hammer price at $5,250 plus the 22% commission, his all in price was over $6,400. The new tires plus the replacement rockers had to have been easily over another grand, not to mention the other parts. The car, given its rarity, is definitely well worth doing and will be magnificent when finished. Certainly one of the most desirable, if not the most desirable postwar Packard. I once knew a gentleman who had a restored 1948 Custom Eight convertible and the car always drew a crowd whenever it was shown. It was painted Packard Ivory, just like the professor's car in "Back to the Future". Magnificent car, If you have the skills to tackle a project like this, you won't be disappointed with the result. The car has a lot going for it. Far worse examples have been restored.

P.S. Since most of the Packard advertising seems to have migrated to other on-line venues, this new topic is a good idea.

Pretty sure that Constellation has Panama seats, unless that was the all leather option for the Constellation.

Trust me, that Custom doesn't have Wat Tyler written anywhere near it.

Just spotted this on Facebook. 1949 (22nd Series) Custom Eight Club Sedan project car in Tennessee. Should give you everything you need to do the Convertible, in case anyone is interested.

Very rare car probably worth doing in its own right.

That poor car I've seen for sale on and off.. shame it's languishing.

I don't think the belt molding will work between the models. If you look at page 329 of the parts manual series 2255 and 2259 have different numbers. The top of the lids is clearly different between the two, is it close enough at the bottom??

Other thing to consider (per Neal's book) early models of the convertibles switched between the 1" and 1-5/16" moldings, though this happened around #100 off the line. This one is #200.. probably the 1-5/16" but I would check first.

Couple of more new ones I'd like to post here:

Hemmings

1940 120 Opera Coupe. Solid unrestored car that has been in storage for many years. Looks like a worthy project. Bedford, NY:

hemmings.com/listing/1940-packard-120-27 ... ign=autotempest_premium_classifieds

Craigslist

1957 Clipper Town Sedan. Needs restoration but appears complete and relatively rust free. Idaho:

twinfalls.craigslist.org/cto/d/twin-falls-1957-packatd-clipper/7681985080.html

1948 Club Sedan and 1949 (23rd Series) Club Sedan. The '48 is beautifully restored with new paint, chrome and interior. Think it is a Super 8. The '49 is an unrestored project car. Not sure of model. Selling as a package. Includes two spare engines and some other parts. San Diego, CA area:

sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/d/spring-valley-1948-packard/7682361397.html

Facebook

More fugitives from the C. Lewis Ablelove auctions turning up for sale. Available in upstate NY not far from where the auctions were held. These car flippers never quit:

1956 Carribean. Almost hopeless. Was Lot No. 97 from the Phase 1 auction. Sold for $1,500. Seller is asking $5,333.

facebook.com/marketplace/item/2015759645 ... _code=null&referral_story_type=post

1948 Super 8 Convertible Victoria plus another convertible and a sedan for parts. Really rough and I'm not sure if you will even have enough parts to build one good car. The yellow convertible was Lot #226 at the Phase 1 auction and hammered for $3,000. The green parts convertible was Lot #1 and sold for just $1,250. I think the sedan parts car in primer was Lot#223 which sold for $250:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/8897079421 ... _code=null&referral_story_type=post

1940 110 coupe. Needs total resto, but not as bad as some of the other Packards from this auction. Was Lot #59. Hammer price before commission was $3,250:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1809541146 ... _code=null&referral_story_type=post

I see several other C. Lewis Ablelove auction cars in the background, so this guy was busy.

1958 Packard Sedan. Very solid and rust free as it is from Las Vegas. Ad states that the car runs and drives:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1318843995 ... _code=null&referral_story_type=post

1939 Six Convertible Coupe. Looks like a nice car. California:

I disagree slightly on the 56 Caribbean. As long as the frame has held up, it would be a sweet rat rod project.

This just in on Facebook. 1937 115C Touring sedan with excellent sheet metal. No motor. Price seems very reasonable for what's there. The fenders look exceptionally straight. Could be restored. Located in New Hampshire:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/9020560009 ... _code=null&referral_story_type=post

Just posted on Craigslist. 1951 250 convertible plus a 1951 200 Deluxe sedan in New York. But the convertible looks pretty hopeless, even with the 200 parts car:

hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/d/pine-bush-1951-packard/7684816115.html

Also new on Craigslist. Very solid looking 1953 convertible in CA (Los Angeles area). All there and appears rust free, but needs restoration:

losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/d/rive ... 53-packard-cavalier/7685153884.html

And a 1950 Super Deluxe Touring sedan in Detroit, MI. Solid car, looks decent for the money:

detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/d/detroit-1950-packard-eight/7684557510.html

One more recent Craigslist posting: 1955 Clipper Custom Constellation Hardtop. Say that five times fast. Rough, unrestored, but appears to be all there and is not a totally rusted out basket case. Located in Kansas:

dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/d/nickerso ... kard-clipper-custom/7684014920.html
