Identifying Bendix-Treadlevac Master Brake Cylinder

I know this was answered before but I can't find it. What are the differences in the 1953-1956 Bendix-Treadlevac Master Brake Cylinder and how can one tell them apart? (Yes, I know that 1952 was the first year but it's easily identifiable.)
I ask because I have a core I want to rebuild for my 1956 which I understood is from a '55 or '56 and want to know if it's the proper one. Someone (Howard, as I recall) said something about a stamping on the casing but I can find nothing there.

Don, this thread has some info on identification on page 5 (which the link should take you to), including a table out of the Bendix catalog: Treadlevac Thread There probably is more info pertaining to ID'ing the units, but I didn't look thru the other 16 pages!

This is the one I was looking to rebuild for my 1956 but only if it is coded properly. I have no idea, though, how someone bent the rod!
The second end cap photo is of the one from my 1954 Patrician while the one in it was rebuilt using the one from the 1954 parts car. I haven’t compared this one yet to the chart but the stampings seem very haphazard! Attach file: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thank you Ross! That's what I was hoping for but don't know if the push rod can be straightened or it it needs to be replaced. Either way, it appears to be a good core to rebuild.

Thank you, Kev! The other thread was referenced earlier in this one but great to see it in text where I can copy it to my Notes app for easier reference when needed.
Based on the various differences pointed out none of which seem to affect fitment, it is safe to presume that it's okay to use a newer unit in an older car than the other way around because the newer ones are somehow improved? Does a rebuild add some of the improvements even to an earlier unit?
