I am finally getting some time and energy for the Caribbean. I am about to fix the exhaust mount that goes behind the muffler. I would like to confirm that this is the correct orientation for the rubber isolator and the bracket. When I got the car, this mount was broken, and every once in a while I would get a little "dong dong". This should quiet things down a little.
Thanks for any confirmation or correction!

I'll get under the Panama tonight to check. Should be the same set up as yours.

This is a picture Gerry from Southwest sent me months ago when I bought this part. I'll see if things line up this way.

The one in the photo looks terribly misaligned which will eventually cause it to fail so it seems some bending and/or adjustment of the system is in order. Also, originally both the pipe and the muffler had a hole into which a tapered pin from the mount clamp kept everything in place without the need of excessive tightening. By now, these pins are often gone (cut off by owners or exhaust shops) but I made sure they were all there when I recently installed the exhaust system in my 1951 Henney-Packard which from the muffler forward is the same as yours.
Not a great photo and you’ll have to zoom in to see it but the clamp should be level when everything is properly aligned. The bottom of the pin where it was swaged on is visible between the two clamp nuts.

Hi Don,
I agree that the picture in post 304 shows a mis-alignment that is not good. -that's not my car. I put mine together like this next photo, and I am happy with how everything lined up very well. The bolt holding the bracket to the frame was luckily still in the hole, and I could use it. Interesting that your bracket is mounted to the X frame, and not the longitudinal runner.

Note the size of the massive side rails! By the way. Typically the bolt goes downward with the nut at the bottom so as to better allow the threads to dry after driving on wet roads. With the threads upward, they will tend to hold the water in the bracket’s channel and promote rust.

The DEI insulation/Sound deadening Material arrived, so I was happy to install that. I will glue the pieces on the transmission hump, but plan not to glue the rest. It may have to come out someday if the interior ever gets wet.
I hope the carpet fits over everything, and the Extra thickness of the insulation does not make any problems.

The interior is back in, and I am very happy with the results. Quiet, and in the few places where I have holes in the carpet, the grey insulation looks inconspicous.
I also swapped two bolts on the top of the transmission to move the vented bolt to the passenger side. I need to drive a little more and see if that drys things up a little. Today I did a different job....needle and thread to get the Sun visors back together.
