I have a question concerning the screws that hold in the trim piece for the rear door for a '38, model 1601 (body 1192). In the parts book, index 30.4810, the screws listed are Packard part #6767 (50.025).

My question: is this a mis-print? Are the screw heads for the rear windows larger than the all the rest? Should the part number be 6761 like the ones used to attach the trim piece for the Windshield, Rear Quater window Wings, and the rear window. The 6767 has a regular head (.308 dia.) and the 6761 has a 6D head (.279 dia.).

Are you looking at the physical parts book or the online database version? If online, it's possible that it could be a mistake as the 1's and 7's can look a lot alike to OCR software.

If I am reading that correctly, I don't believe there is a ferrule called out for the 1192, so perhaps that is why a #8 head is used.

I can’t speak for the 1938 models but on later Packards most of the chrome trim screws were typically #8 threads with smaller #6 heads, then a ferrule (countersunk washer) was used under them to protect the paint or wood grain. Although I am referencing the ‘50s era cars, I seem to recall that my 1940s were very similar.

Wow, I guess my Dyslexia is back, I don't know how many times I looked at this page, but you are correct, there is no call out for the Ferrule for the 1192.

It would seem that the larger heads would be the logical ones to use. I went through a box of old interior parts I have and did find 4 sheet metal screws with the larger heads.

Thanks BigKev.

If someone with 1601, 1192 can verify I would appreciate that.
