The lining lengths, widths and thickness is given in the Packard Standard Sizes and Specifications sheet. It gives 3/16" thickness for all 7th thru 9th series.

Do brake shops still do "arcing" or "fit to drum" grinding or is that something else that EPA has now declared illegal.
When I had a brake job done on a Pacific several years ago, they measured the drum ID, set the machine then ground the shoes to proper arc. If that service is still available maybe they could do the same to your excess.

My local brake shop still arc-grinds the linings to the drum diameter as long as the lining is non-asbestos.

Thanks for the info. I keep forgetting to check the standard specifications section! Sorry.
The 'new' shoes have a thickness of .23, well above the 3/16 (.1875). I got the old shoes cleaned up and put them on. The drums fit now. Thanks tons, Tom
