Hello again. I'm here with another neophyte question:

Where is the date code stamped on my 1949 288 engine? Search as I might, I cannot find any posts indicating WHERE to look for it.

Thanks for your help.

On my 54, the casting date was stamped on the passenger side, towards the back, just above the oil pan.

But it is the engine serial number that determines the model year of your motor.

Here is a photo from the engine serial number list. Kind of hard to orient yourself with the photos but casting info is low on the block just above the oil pan and on some engines it may be on both sides
