I know this is an old old post , and found it looking for a solution for a 33 V12 generator/regulator/cutout problem I have.
It's a 33 Packard conv. V12 , the generator did not appear to be charging , showing a slight discharge on the ammeter. It "looked" like it had the correct Owen Dyneto combo regulator/cutout on it till I opened it up and found some modern conversion that appears to be a diode ??
Had the generator tested and it is fine.

I am now looking for a solution to replace it , as all the original internals of the O.D. are gone.

I have looked up the few types that are mentioned in the post and find none. Is there one that will work for now as I search the world for a replacement that will fit under the original O.D. cover.

I pulled the base apart in search of a number and found none.

The O.D. generator is type 00119 s# 830216

Thanks !

Unless you can find a NAPA VR755 which I believe will prove to be nearly impossible, you best choice may be to disconnect but leave the current cutout/regulator in place for cosmetic purposes, convert the generator to a 2-brush unit, and install and hide a modern regulator in some out of sight location. Jason at AER in Grand Ledge MI should be able to help you with this.

Thanks ! I will check these out. Spent hours looking last night and sorting thru posts this morning.

Will try and put up a couple pics.

Looking around on the links sent , thanks.
Here's a couple pics of what I found under the cover , and had brought it in to a local guy
And he just stuck a cutout on it.
I will not run it as such and an removing it , pretty sure I read do not run it
With just a cutout.

From the information found for the Transpo D-100 it is a diode and just works as a cutoff and not any kind of regulator. When the engine and generator is running a slightly higher voltage produced by the generator flows to the battery thru the diode because it will be forward biased. When engine is stopped and generator voltage goes away the diode will then be reverse biased by the battery and diode works to block any battery voltage from being fed back to the generator. All required voltage and current regulation the car needs is done by adjusting the third brush on the generator.

Should you not find a real regulator and want to keep the cutoff, if the battery is not being charged and generator is definitely OK, I would think there is an issue in the generator brush adjustment. As I recall from a previous lifetime there is on average about 6/10 of a volt drop thru a diode so the generator needs to be able to provide that in addition to the normal charging voltage. It is also possible the diode is open which is not the usual failure state for a diode but it could have shorted first and then burned open. If you have a multimeter they typically have a diode check function so you might disconnect the cutoff and do a test to verify your diode is OK.

There is a poster on a Ford forum with what sounds like your same symptoms and advise there was to try adjusting the third brush to provide a bit more voltage and current. There is another Ford post with instruction on how to install and adjust a diode cutoff. Not sure it is a Transpo D-100 they are installing but same principles would apply and instructions might give some insight and guidance on checking and adjusting yours.
