Well I did some looking around. Would someone point me in the right direction, where I can find instructions on checking the fuel level. I am sure there is more to it then taking off the top and measuring. Do I crank the car over with the ignition off to fill the bowl? Or what's the best method?

I am leaning on the carburetor issue as well.

An easy way to check that is to turn off the engine when it it hot, remove the air cleaner and see if a faint vapor mist exiting out the the top of the carburetor. If it does that, then you have gas dripping into the carb while it is off and flooding the engine.

I have electric fuel pumps on all my cars to fill the carb after sitting a long time. It saves the starter and the battery.
It is also beneficial on hot days down here in Texas when you stop at a long traffic light. Starting up, I would always have a vapor lock. 3 second blast from the elec pump and the line would be cleared.

I checked the fuel level in the bowl, it was right on. The timing was at 7, so I retarded it to 10. I pulled the air cleaner and the carb was clear. Pic shortly after shutting down. I then went to restart it with no luck. I then grabbed the ignition coil and it was hot enough, I couldn't keep my hand on it. Next test will be the resistance of the coil, both cold and hot to see if it is failing when hot

Sounds like the coil to me. Very similar to the problem I had, though mine would restart easier after cooling for a sufficient time. Napa has replacements, or Dwight Heinmuller also has 6 and 12V coils in stock. Of course Kanter and Max Merritt would have them too.
