I was trying to install a 1940 Packard radio in a 1940 Packard. It looks like it should have a plate that bolts to the firewall and the radio receiver clamps to that. Does anyone know what the plate which bolts to the firewall looks like? Thanks

I don't believe there is a plate but there are brackets on either side of the box where bolts are placed which pass thru the pad and firewall to have nuts and washers installed on the engine side. Speaker is handled similarly except bolts are on the rear of the speaker.

I don't know which radio you are installing but the procedures are similar for all. Here is the instructions for installing the Custom model radio. If you have the Deluxe or the 1 button radio, if instructions are not already in the literature section I also have info for both of those if you would prefer. I will need to reduce the file size before I can post them though.

HH56 responded while I was marking up the attached photo.

The procedure provided is great but the photo shows the receiver box back attachment 2 "fingers" on each side. A hex bolt + washer typically goes through the middle of the fingers with a rubber flat pad between the fingers and your firewall to dampen rattle/noise. The bolt is long enough to go through all the firewall insulation/steel wall and protrude enough to take a flat+lock+nut on the engine side of the firewall.

Please verify that your junior radio has similar fingers to the senior radio receiver box shown.

I can confirm that the junior 1940 radio had the same ears. Is it possible that the one you’re trying to install is aftermarket?

Mine looks just like the one pictured. I just need to make something to put the bolt through the fingers. Thanks

The originals as I recall were not hex but were of a T design.

The heads on the originals were like round rods usually the same diameter as the threaded shaft and set at 90 degrees. Tee slot bolts are more rectangular and maybe a bit wider.
