Went to a car show inside a 200 year old fort this weekend. Weather was great. I was one of two pre-war cars, with the other being a 1931 Model A. About 50 cars. Great day, and my kids hung out with me all day. Lots of attention for the old girl, and met some great people.

I've been back from a deployment for a few weeks now, and happy to report that the old girl fired right up. I disconnected the battery last fall before I left, and all did was re-connect the battery, check the fluids, and she fired right up. Took the kids on a 30 mile joy ride. All is well in Packard land.

Oh happy day! I parked the car in a car club buddies garage on June 8th in Chesapeake, VA. Happy to report that after sitting for a little over four months, I showed up today, verified fluids, re-connected the battery, and she fired right up! I don't have an electric fuel pump, and I pumped the gas, cranked for 4-5 seconds, pumped the gas again, and she fired right up. Warmed up nicely, and then I drove it 24 miles home on back roads with no issue. The only casualty of sitting for a little over four months was some transmission oil on the drip pan under the car. So, I'll have to figure out where that is coming from. I've replaced the rear seal. I think maybe cover over the input shaft is leaking. I don't really want to fuss with that, since it will require pulling the transmission, but maybe that's what will need to happen. Either way, not going to happen today!

Shoehorned back in a small garage. That's how it goes.

Nice! That had to be a great feeling. I’m sure it feels great to have it home. There should still be some good weather to enjoy this year.

Ken,

Your Packard is behaving...as a thank you for your service.

Good tidings since we met at the "feed" in the Hall at Hershey.

PM me when you are back for a while to visit WY.

Well, no pictures, but took the car out for about an hour and a half last weekend with my 9 year old to get a fresh fill up of non-ethanol. Last time I lived in Norfolk, the closest place to get ethanol free was about 75 minutes away. The new place is a marina that's only 25 minutes away, and I don't have to get on the freeway or go through a toll to get there, so great news! The only issue was that the filler hose worked a little bit loose where it connects to the tank, so I was dripping fuel. I didn't have a flathead screwdriver with me, so I had to wait until I got home to tighten it up. Second or third time it has loosened slightly, so I may put a drop of blue lock-tite on the hose clamp to try and prevent further issues.

Yesterday and today I finally put some Hershey purchases to good use. In 2020, when I put new tires on, I discovered that my spare likely dated from the Eisenhower administration. I also found that one of my wheels was bent pretty badly, so I used the wheel from the spare tire. It also had the added bonus of better paint. Ever since then, it has nagged at the back of my mind a little bit that I didn't have a spare tire. So this year at Hershey, I bought a matching Firestone (blackwall instead of whitewall) and tube. I also found a REALLY clean wheel that I think came off of a 115, since it has three pinstripes instead of two sets of two concentric pinstripes. But, its not bent, and you can't see the wheel in the trunk anyways.

I got the tire mounted yesterday after I found a tire shop that would work with bias plys and tubes (score!). Today I installed it and so that's one little project knocked off.

I'm getting settled into the new job, house projects are winding down, and I've got the garage settled about where I want it, so looking forward to getting more of these little projects down.
