What color should my firewall be on a 1928 533? The 533 is a limo that is a custom Dietrich build.

I have seen some the same color as the car and some semi-black.

Thanks for your help.

Gar

Factory would have been body color, at least to the extent of overspray. For a custom bodied car though, I suspect they would clean it up.

I would do it to match the interior side of the hood.

Black.

I have seen a couple of original 1928-1929 cars to lead me to this conclusion. When I paint my 640 the firewall will be black on both sides - interior and engine bay.

Closed cars had lots of black, black frame, black fenders, black fender wells, black roof, all door jams, and front windshield. I would bet the factory painted everything black first, (except the hood??), then added the Packard color to the car, which was only below the belt line and around the window reveals.

Custom cars... I have no clue.

Maybe a Judging handbook would reveal further detail.
