If I had room I would take it. That car needs to be saved. Yes it needs work, but from the looks of it the body work would be minimal. Interior and top would be complete redo, some chrome would need to be redone. Engine possibly rebuilt. But I would take this in a heartbeat in order to save it. '53 Caribbeans are my favorite year.

I would be very careful posting an ad on Craigslist. The site is infested with scammers. Hint. Never include your phone number in an ad as this is something which attracts scammers. If someone contacts you and offers to buy the car at your asking price without asking any questions or requesting an inspection, run. This is a sure sign of a scammer. They will trick you into giving them personal banking info such as account numbers. Or they will pay with a phony check for more than the asking amount (by mistake they will claim) and then request a partial refund. In fact, I would probably not use Craigslist at all. The site also tends to attract bottom feeders or dreamers who will just waste your time. Have not heard of anyone making a successful deal over Craigslist in quite some time. And truthfully, FB Marketplace is not much better these days.
With Packards, I think you will do better with enthusiasts' sites. The Packard Automobile Classics (PAC) website is a good place, but you have to be a member to post a free ad. Regular membership is $58 per year which is actually less than what they would charge for an ad by a non-member. However, the PAC is the largest Packard club with thousands of members nationwide and abroad. Your ad will also go into their bi-monthly printed newsletter, so it would get wide circulation. Here is a link to their website: packardclub.org/packard-membership.php Another thing I would recommend would be to clean the car up a bit and at least get it so it can be rolled onto a flatbed. Get it out of the dirt and put some air into the tires. If the tires won't hold air, get some used ones from a tire center. Will be worth the effort. Seeing photos of the car partially sunk into the ground and an interior filled with dead leaves is going to be a huge turnoff to any prospective buyer. Trust me. Barn finds are great for photo collectors, but seeing a car in this state just makes me not want to even bother going out to look at it. Hope this helps.

Here is another 1953 Caribbean for comparison. This car is now listed for sale on the PAC website. It is a partially completed restoration and quite a bit of work has been done. Asking price is $11,500. You must be a member to view ads online on the site.

I actually have a much better experience with CL, as opposed to FB. FB is free, so you get all sorts of strange people and scammers over there. You have to pay to list a car on CL, and they also do have some protection. For example, the seller does not see your e-mail, they contact you through the website relay instead (could be the same with the phones, I am not sure). I purchased my current car from CL, from an older gentlemen, while I could not find anything decent on FB (I actually went and checked a couple of cars, and they were trash, despite the sellers' reassuring commentary). I listed another car myself on FB and CL, a year ago. And while it did not sell, I received 0 inquiries from CL, but a lot of scammers contacted me on FB, trying to get one of those "history reports" and what not. So this kind of illustrates which site is a better option, from these two, in my opinion. ![]() +100% about cleaning the car, etc.
