Seeking procedure to adjust Steering Column tilt on 9th series (1932), 8th series (1930) etc

Seeking information on how to adjust the steering column tilt on a 9th series. I know there are 2 large bolts on the dash bracket to loosen to slide it up and down (pivot, actually) but unless the column or steering box flexes, seems like there must be something on the steering box end that needs to be loosened or moved. Can't find anything in the literature I have. Thanks!

I don't know much about these but do you know that it's supposed to be adjustable?

That being said, if you can change the height at the dash area, then I would imagine that loosening the steering gearbox to frame attaching hardware would be the only other step.

On the second page of this service letter there is mention of a small amount of adjustment at the steering box for some series cars but whether it is applicable to yours or enough for your needs would be the question. I don't know how the column is held at the dash in the early nodels but later years had clamps that would also need to have shims or a slotted clamping arrangement changed along with the box movement. Not sure if they are referring to the same series models as the first letter or if it was meant to be used in conjunction with moving the box but on the second page in a later service letter there is mention of 3 different height brackets available to move the wheel position.

Yes it is adjustable. It is mentioned in the owner's manual. Says "your dealer can perform the adjustment". The bracket on the dash has a slot of approximately 1.5"-2.0" movement. Mine is now roughly in the center of the slot. But the column is solid so it would appear it would not bend independent of the box. The box is bolted to the frame in fixed holes. It appears the sector shaft may be adjustable within the box but have not found any documentation outside of a parts diagram.

I have no idea if this would have been similar for you series car, but the 1937 shop manual also lists three brackets…standard, one to raise the steering wheel, and one to lower the steering wheel. Then, it mentions this related to the steering gear box.

You say fixed holes so I take it your series does not have the slightly angled slot like holes at the steering box as shown and mentioned in the first service letter linked above and is not capable of moving the 2+ degrees? If it doesn't have the slots you could probably elongate the holes as the article on the 37 suggests doing for those cars.
