Is there a reasonable way to DIY an alignment before I take the car to an alignment shop?
I realized last night an additional radiator problem in that the exit hose for the Ford radiator is 2", not 1¾". Therefore I need to either find a reduction hose or just use some universal hose with a reduction fitting somewhere. I'll have to look. EDIT: Here is my new radiator hose idea. The right side is the 2" and I think I can cut it in that middle section.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=670536&cc=3294844&pt=10068 It should be noted that on the 56 transmissions, a different length screw is required for the idler lever bracket (selector shaft linkage bell crank). I think it's also slightly different for Hash. I used two 1/2-20 x 1" screws with four split ring lock washers on the upper bolt, and three on the lower. This is because the lower hole on mine does not have threads as far out on the hole for whatever reason. But in general it's no problem using a 56 or Hash transmission body in this regard. I'll make a thread later of the other changes. I got the driveshaft on, transmission selector linkage in, back wheels put on, and there is not much left to do. Need to install the coil, transmission line clips, swap engine oil pan + install steering linkage, then once this radiator is figured out it's basically ready to fire up. I'll have to put the front fenders and splasher on to test drive it, but that actually doesn't take very long.

Nope, no 55 Deluxe has TL. But I will at some point need to check over the system on the 400.

As mentioned before, I needed to swap the previously installed Hash pan off my engine. Dropped the new pan off my spare engine and was wondering why there was so much SLUDGE 🤬 in the new pan and… oh.

So today I dropped the old oil pan. Except I forgot it was still filled with oil. So...
![]() Then I realized that I am not sure if my Hash oil pump will fit in the Packard pan. I'm actually confident it will, but better safe than sorry. So I took the pump from the spare engine, and a spare pump I brought up, and disassembled them, only to find that they are both extremely worn. The gear endplay was to spec at 3 thou, but on both pumps the driving gear was heavily worn at 13 thou play (spec is 5 max). I was able to make one good oil pump out of the two; I plan to post instructions sometime. Process took like 7 hours to figure out, but in reality it would be maybe 2 hours start to finish to do it a second time. Also, I got the huge dent out of the pan using an old leg off a stool. The foot is softer than a metal drift, but tough, and also self adjusting to the incline. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dropped the #3 bearing out of the old engine (itself not even original to the car) and... yeah. Also the oil pump on this one was 4 and 13 thou side play on the gears. I have a video cranking it over for like 10 seconds with the heads off and no oil coming out when it was like a quart overfilled. 😩
