If the new starter comes with a solenoid you are probably set but if you need to transfer and reuse your old solenoid you might want to pick up a STK2 solenoid rebuild kit from Napa. The symptom you describe could be, as you suspect, the contactor in the solenoid but could be the starter motor too if a brush contact with the commutator is weak or intermittent.
To a lesser extent that symptom can also be caused by a failing start contact in the ignition switch. The 54-56 key start ignitions switches are well known for developing intermittent problems in senior models with the large Delco pinion shift solenoids. If the clicks are consistent and you hear it every time you try to start the car then not as likely to be the ign switch but if the clicks are as hit or miss as the starter engagement then look at the ignition switch too.

Good Morning. Perhaps also look closely at your battery cables. Even if they are proper 00 gage cables, they can be corroded internally and produce the problem you are describing. Ernie in Arizona

Ernie is so right to never underestimate the little things and to suggest looking at battery cables. At the least you should remove and clean the terminals at the battery and then make sure they are tight at both ends before condemning the starter. To a lesser extent, if the battery has a failing or weak cell, that can also cause starting motor issues.

Yes for 6V but 00 AWG cables are overkill for a 12v car, are they not?
On the cracked window, try to ascertain what cracked it. On my 1952 Henney-Packard, it once got a cracked door window so I took the whole car to the glass shop where it was replaced. They called to say it was ready, then called again a few minutes ago to say, never mind, it cracked again when the door was closed! In this case on an earlier car that had hydraulic windows, the lift mechanism was tapping it but could be something similar in a 1956.
