A bit of a contradiction, isn't it? When you have the governor out, you might want to verify that the hydraulic paths to the pressure source and external port are clear as you previously found that gunk had resulted in a stuck valve.

Ok… front pump must be satisfactory as long as the pump valve prevents leakage past the rear pump. 😐

Quite a regular

The transmission does function quite normally, as best as i can tell.. Ive had a few Buick Dynaflows over the years and this one in its current condition, functions exactly like that... Gears are not too slow to engage, and are all present.. You get a nice clunk when going to reverse, and its really quick... which tells me the pump booster circuit seems to be working... So all and all its got to be down to, Governor, Rear Pump, or Oil path to and from the RP/Gov... Ill keep you guys posted on the mystery.... Better than the history/crime channel combined... LOL
Thanks Paul

I keep going back to your original comment "I did find one stuck valve.. the valve IN FRONT of the direct drive valve was stuck for sure... it had a ton of black looking oil come from it..."
Seems to me that the most obvious problem is this "black looking oil" causing stuck valves and who know what other issues, such as plugged passage ways, it's causing that you're not able to see. If when you drained the oil there wasn't a bunch of metal flakes present, then I'm less inclined to think it's a mechanical issue. I think for the most part the Ultramatics are pretty tough transmissions, certainly not without their issues, but not prone to failure if maintained. The biggest drawback these days is not many people understand them, or know how to repair them.
