Barely 3 hours later and the windshield is in. Just need to finish locking the weatherstripping, and installing the molding.

You may note that there is no glazing compound and the glass itself is not very nice. That’s because this is the test run to see how well the weatherstripping comes back off (also in case I broke something by accident). So I’m actually gonna swap it a second time. But it’s what I do to test my products for you all. 🤗

Thanks for sacrificing your sanity for us. Replacing windshields is one of my least favorite things to do. Especially with the stainless trim.

Realized the windshield is a bit off center. Got one piece of trim on and it went well, but it’s impossible to complete if off center. So I’ll pull this windshield and replace it with the nice one.

Can you describe off-center? Can't it go in only one way?

Just imagine it being like 3/16" off the centerline of the car. The rubber doesn't exert enough force to center it automatically.

I see. I never replaced one so couldn't figure out how it could be off-center.

Got some of the new door weatherstripping installed today. The door still closes with a reasonable amount of force. I can actually still close it by pressing firmly with one hand at a slow speed. No slams required (which are apt to crack old window glass). Feels much like a new car.

(I sent it a bit too high as I wasn't installing the molded upper pieces at this time.)

It may be noted that, while the 70 y/o cars with original weatherstripping that close effortlessly and perfectly are nice to use, in practice, that means the weatherstripping has lost all of its preload against the body, so is apt to let water seep past. A slight springy feel to the door is correct.

How does your gasket fit, better than steele.

I have not had a reason to complain about mine as of yet. Unsurprising, as I made them direct off the drawing. I've never installed a Steele one so I don't have a direct comparison. Ross is getting one so hopefully he can enlighten me, though it's been a while since he installed one.
