Recently purchased 120 1935 sedan Bouncing in front Apparently suspension Do not see Shocks How is the car stabilized? arev there needed Parts or Adjustments?

Your car has double-acting hydraulic shocks at all 4 wheels. They can leak fluid and become inoperative. Re-filling them with hydraulic jack oil will often get them working again, but they will probably leak. The front shocks are also the upper front suspension arms, with the shock body being at the inboard end of the arm and bolted to the frame. If they leak, which is likely, they can be rebuilt on an exchange basis. Procedures for checking and filling the shocks can be found in the Literature Archive on this site. The rear shocks have links that can be loose or missing. The car will ride and handle VERY POORLY unless all 4 shocks are in working order. Rebuilding the shocks requires special equipment, and removing and replacing them is not a simple task, but it is do-able without special tools or knowledge if you proceed with care.

Your 1935 120 has lever action shocks front and rear, so they look different than the modern mono-tube shocks.

On the front end, they form the upper suspension link from the wheel support to the frame. If your front end is too bouncy, they may be low on oil. The best oil to use is hydraulic jack oil; I used a synthetic product from the local auto parts store. There is a small plug on the top of the shock - I think 7/16 or 1/2 wrench, if I remember correctly, and I used a meat syringe to put the oil in. If you're having a hard time seeing it, removing the inner fender liners is pretty easy, and greatly improves visibility in that area.

PGH gave good advice - the owners manual and shop manual are available free to download on this site, and provide lots of insights. Congrats on the new car, and we'd love to see some pictures! I have a '37 120 touring sedan, so I'm partial. Properly sorted, they are wonderful driving cars.

If they are really bouncy, that is a sure sign the shocks are very low/empty of fluid. There is a little hex bolt on top that acts as a fill port.

You can use jack-oil.

It is not uncommon for them to need to be rebuilt, as they probably need the seals\bushings replaced if they have never been done.
