While I have my 1808 off the floor, thinking about changing the rear overdrive seal. It weeps just a bit. In the past I have used gl4 140 sta lube gear oil. The manual suggests a 90 to 140 closer to 140 in warmer climates. I am in Las Vegas, definitely warmer. Need the latest thoughts, I can stay with the gl4 140, or I see a Lucas Gl5 90 to 140. Or see many 90 to 140 synthetic oils. What is the current set up for transmission gear oil? Thanks

Joe's right as rain. That's exactly what i use in my '47 Super Clipper's overdrive transmission, essentially the same drivetrain as your and his '40 One-Sixties. GL-5 is fine for the differential. Check the overdrive and transmission levels separately.

This is what I use as well. Recommended by Ross to keep transmissions happy. This is standard GL1-90W. No friction modifiers that can make old transmissions unhappy.
