22nd Series Packard looking for new home

There's a Packard not far from me that was purchased new by the family with the wife and children still living. They want to sell the car to someone that will restore it to original (no modders or salvagers). It's 2262-9-53247 (Deluxe Touring Sedan), 5-20-49, engine G286933, Briggs 2262-53055. Overdrive. Maroon. Seats and door panels were reupholstered in the 1960's, but otherwise the car is original. Only 63,119 original miles! Engine turns freely. No rust holes but surface rust in places. Floors, trunk and quarters are solid. No dents. Very solid. There's a crack in the front flange of the drivers side hood. Dashboard woodgraining is degraded. Last registered in 2005 and was reportedly running then, but not being driven.
Has all hubcaps and beauty rings. Original manuals and some paperwork (mice chewed up some of it). Fender skirts. It appears the jack is missing.

Unfortunately a 49 Deluxe Sedan is pretty much the least valuable model of Packard in existence. Even at $1000 purchase price you would lose money just on mechanical parts let alone aesthetic parts, and labor, compared to the value add.

It is a worthy project in some senses, but finding a suitable buyer will be quite the task indeed.

Agree. Bathtub era sedans, particularly the short wheelbase Standard and Deluxe models, are just not that desirable, even to diehard Packard people. Plus, these are relatively common cars, and I frequently see really nice examples for sale for not much money. Just not worth restoring a rough one. Even if you could do most of the work yourself, you would end up way underwater attempting a restoration here. Plus, the market is flooded with Packard project cars right now. Just look at how many I post on this site. Sometimes, I find 10 or more new postings in a single day. And almost none of them sell. I see the same cars for sale for months, sometimes years with no takers. And this includes desirable models like convertibles. I've posted several Caribbean projects in recent weeks and don't see any of them finding homes either. If those aren't selling, there isn't much of a chance for a four-door bathtub.

They have no illusions about getting a lot of money for it. They just want to see it saved.

My first car which I drove for decades was a '49 23rd series Standard Golden Anniversary edition. Despite turning the odo twice, 200K+, it was a great driver that took me all over the western US. Reliable and easy to drive with very light steering and pedal action. There's a plus to the shorter wheelbase and more economical engine as a driver. It doesn't need to be a show car.
