Another "project" I forgot about, and that's getting the measurements of the WDO carb, so since you've posted on here and reminded me, I've got 'em.

Side pattern measurement: 1 & 7/8"
Front/Rear Measurement: 3 & 1/4"
Top of carb where air cleaner attaches: 2 & 1/4" approx. It's about 1/32" of an inch smaller, but I don't have a tape measure that has 32nd's of an inch measurements. I hope these are close enough to get an idea if it will fit.

Looking at all the pics and sort of guessing on Gerd's measurements, I'm of the educated opinion that the WDO will fit on a Zis. If this is so, then a multitude of carbs will fit on one. Doing some more intensive investigation, a WDG has the same bolt pattern, as well as later Carter two barrel carbs, and Stromberg WW's. The main thing to watch for is the butterfly openings, which on the WDO is 1 & 5/16", and on the WDG and Stromberg WW's it's 1 & 7/16". I used the carbs I have in my "collection" for measurements, the WDO is off from a '49 Hudson 262, the WDG is from my '53 Clipper, and the Stromberg WW is from a '56 Dodge Coronet V8. I know the Stromberg will fit on a later MOPAR 318, as I used it on my '76 Dodge 3/4 Ton pickup with no problems, and it ran better with it than the original Carter carb.

There should be no doubt that the Carter WDO can replace the Russian clone on the ZIS engine, I've seen one mounted on the ZIS in Sweden. That said there are dozens if not a hundred models of the WDO what with varying venturi sizes, main jets, etc., so one would want to match those specifications as best you can for optimal performance.

I have one or two, maybe more. As for choice of innards, please elaborate on what you mean. As for what does one cost, maybe we can work out a trade for something, send me an email and we'll work something out.

Since the displacement of the ZIS is about the same as the Packard 356, I think I'd select a WDO with the same venturi size and jets, or at least the same venturi size and change the jets if required to match the 356. I wouldn't use a WDO from a 288 or 327 engine if these are different which I believe they are. Somewhere I have that data and will look it up, perhaps tomorrow.

Or call Daytona Parts down in Florida; even when you're not a buying customer they've always been very obliging about answering questions. And I believe their website can help identify the exact WDO number for the 356, and also I think the Carb Doctor website has similar information. I believe the number for the 356 with starter switch is WDO 531 SA but best to double check me on that.

I realize it's 'an artist's rendition' but that second picture looks like a ladder is needed to get in.

Except for the use of "exact" as in "exact copy" which we know they were not, an intereting read. Thanks for posting.

Guscha: I have been reading about the history of Hudson for the last couple of weeks. In the book I am reading it stated that in 1927 Hudson opened a production plant in Berlin.

Do you or can you find out any information as to were the plant was located?

Guscha: Thanks for the link to bringing one out of a long sleep. Also I am grateful for your posting the information on Hudson that I requested. What you posted is more than I knew before.
