Is it really important? This was just one more problem in trying to get my engine to run right and I'd rather just forget about it. However, I guess I can do my part to further Packard knowledge. What would I be looking for and what would you want me to take pictures of?

Maybe Keith's profession before getting involved with Packard V-8s was medical examiner performing autopsies on cadavers. Certainly a noble and necessary profession, but one which most of us would not go near.

When it comes to discussing the stock Packard oil pump and keeping it/dissecting it for study, all I can say is....

Eric, How nice of you to post a picture of yourself, although the humane society might take a dim view of it.

Not me, I just get tired of people digging up the same old thing after it's been solved years ago.

Craig & Turbo: I knew of a 56 Packard Clipper that had well over 100,000 miles on it and had the crank shaft replaced once because it broke.
Although having the bad crank shaft replaced it never had the oil pump replaced. Brad would back that Clipper out of the station garage every and leave it run for 15 minutes this happened five days a week. That car never had any type of lifter noise or clatter. John F. Shireman

John, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
I'm not saying that you guys are wrong, but how can you deny the fact that after all the research that Keith, Craig, and I did to solve the problem and prove that the stock Packard V8 oil pump is totally inadequate to do the job that it's requested, then found a suitable replacement, that people would even attempt to consider using the stock pump? It's not worth an expensive engine rebuild to take chances on a car that will be used regularly to use the stock pump. If you're restoring something that will sit 99% of the time, go for it. But if you're driving it at all, I'd replace the oil pump with something that won't destroy your engine. There, beat the f'n horse some more.
