This has been a good week for Packard spottings on TCM channel. Last night the movie Hard Times was on starring Charles Bronson and James Coburn. Their car was a 1936 Packard 120 four door sedan. Included the goddess of speed, sidemounts and trunk rack. Painful scene was when a loan shark sent his henchmen to collect a debt. One of them beat the car with a sledge hammer. Ouch

they are getting harder and harder to come by. I don't know if it is a case of there are not many more out there or we have gotten most of them. However I saw one yesterday on TCM. It is Woman Wanted and stars Joel McCrea and Louis Calhern. I think it was a 30's car and it sure did hurt when they crashed into a building.

There is a yellow 1931 Packard convertible coupe featured in the 1937 screwball comedy Double Wedding.

Costarring with the Packard are Myrna Loy and William Powell.

Powell plays a free spirit who lives in a trailer in a parking lot next to a saloon. The Packard and trailer are going steady.

Watched "Holiday Inn" during the holidays and in the very opening on the movie Fred Astaire steps out of a 1941 110 cab in front of the night club his character is appearing in. Such a shame to see in driving in all that 'fake' snow.

And what a great movie that is. I saw the Packard of course, and was trying to identify the Joad's car. In an early scene I thought I glimpsed the inverted triange of a Hudson, but is later scenes I didn't see it. Perhaps they used two vehicles? Sure looked like a Hudson though.

Did you notice that no matter what speed they drove it, the "engine" made the same gurling sounds? And it must have had a hellofa set of springs!

It was a 1926 Hudson

There is another William Powell - Myrna Loy picture with a Packard.

After The Thin Man starts with a long scene in which Nick and Nora ride home from the station in a Packard touring with the top down. Some excellent shots of the interior, and of the Packard driving down the street and up the driveway.

The movie was released in 1936 so I'm guessing it was a 1935 Eight touring.

Tonight I was viewing a movie titled Another Thin Man made in 1939, staring William Powell. I spotted two Packard's in this movie. The first was between the years of 1932 and 1934. The second I believe was a 1936.
