By rusted out are we talking a flintstone mobile, where you are looking at blacktop rolling by as your driving. I lived in California for a few years and never saw a car that could be considered rusted out.

Al,

I know what you mean. My 400, as seen before and after and I supposedly had an Arizona car!

I'm so glad that part of the resto is done; but with the upmost sincerity, I hope whomever purchases that Clipper enjoys the whole adventure as I did.

For a comparison, my floor rust is worst than KevinAZ's was. Here is the problem with southwest cars. The sun bakes and destroys all the weather seals. Then it rains, and water gets into the car. The carpet jute that holds that moisture against the unpainted floors pans, and the car rusts from the inside out. The bottom of my car still has paint and primer on the pans, but the top side of those pans are a wreck.

Kev,

That's very interesting. Never thought of that problem at all. Now, oceanside cars get that lousy overall body rust from the salt air, but it's usually not too deep. The funny thing about that Clipper Super is it looks like it had especially lot of fender cancer along the bottom, especially the rear quarter.

I wonder if the floor-pan rust thing affects oceanside cars as much as it does southwestern ones. I imaging it depends on how warm the temps are. It gets darn warm in CC!

A lot of times you see old cars with the carpets ripped out, and I guess that's for a reason.. If it's no good as carpet, it just becomes a rust-maker (not to mention the smell.

I hate to belabor the point guys but none of you have shown me any rust. I will at this point do two things. First, I have some floor photos of my 62 dart 4dr sedan. This car had what I consider a fair amount of rust. It is now sitting out in front of my house for sale, as solid as the day it came off the line. Second my daughter lives now in Rochester New York. I will have take some photos of a Rochester winter rat. This is a car that is used in the winter only so that the nice car can be driven in the summer. The rules for a Rochester winter rat are as follows, it must run, it must pass NY state inspection, and it must have a good heater, everything else is optional, such as fenders, floors, trunk lid, hood, inner fenders things like that, and these cars are on the road.

My point in all of this is that the Clipper that has prompted this thread basically has nothing that I would call rust.

Looks like rust to me. Or perhaps those are just speed holes.

HUH???? You Don't think the Ebay56 Clipper has no rust Issues????...Its full of Botched repairs the fenders rockers..Etc. It is so bad on one side, the fender shirt is off Because of the Poor rust repair with bondo, Not only does it have Serious issues the "whole thread" has been the description of the seller's car and the low buy it now price..and the car has sat on "Ebay Forever" and it seems deceptive with all the seller $$$ claims he has in the car...Does a car have to break in half to say it has rust???

Break in half??? Just about. I did not say it did not have issues, just nothing that was so far gone it can't be fixed. Give me a day or two to get some picture together and I will show you rust.

O.K. Here is a start. It is not what I wanted to show but it seems that I don't have jpegs for the car I really wanted to show you. For that, a verbal description will have to do. Later if I can get my daughter to snap some pictures of a Rochester winter rat, that will show you a car even I would not try to restore. However here are some resto photos of my wifes Patrician. The disclored portions of the floor are the new metal that had to be put in because there was nothing there. In addition the center pillar(the 'B' pillar I think) was not even connected to the rocker because there was no part of the rocker that was attached to the frame. All of that had to be replaced, thank God for Mike Dulinski. This car was purchased for $1,800 and was 10 times worse than the Clipper in C.C. Texas.
