Your post begs the question: What tires does the 64 Caddy have on it and how did it drive with the tires on it prior to current tires????

You are missing the point somewhat. The Cadillac has a really mushy suspension and a very non sure footed feel when driving. It has radials, but they don't solve his problems.

As far as we can tell, the ride has always been in that ballpark; probably a bit better when new.

Who knows (or cares) what it came with?

Don't mean this as snotty, just don't think it matters much.

When two men ride the same horse, one has to be in the back...

I drive a 55 Clipper Custom with 235-75R15 WWW Coker radials. I have over 40,000 in 8 years. I enjoy driving the car.
I have heard the only problem with radial tires is the rim flexes with radials and your wheel cover may come off. I have lost 2 wheel covers. I don't use show quality wheel covers but I do have a pretty car and I want to keep it looking good.
If you want radial tires, then get them and enjoy the ride.
