It is so amazing that this engine only has 33K original miles. It fires right up and runs as smooth as glass.... All work is just cosmetic. I only removed the oil pan, for cleaning and painting... The head has never been removed.

I had the manifolds blasted and I am going to try this manifold dressing (the black) from Bill Hirsch. Has anyone used this product? I am curious to see how it holds up.

I don't think I've ever seen a restored car of this year with a green painted intake. However, my original 1940 appears to be green, although much faded. I have always wondered if it was supposed to be green. Is there a resto guide that tells it should be green?

Thanks, I will be glad when it is over. (knee surgery)
As for the manifold, I have not been able to find a specific color for exhaust. That may be because the paint never lasted for more than a month or two from the factory. I have seen green, black, grey and the most popular - Rust. I just thought this combination gave good contrast.

I think what you've done is correct. I just don't normally see the green intake and was wondering if that was written as correct in a resto guide. That's the way my car is as well.

According to the PI Judging guide, all the manifolds left the factory natural cast. No paint. But they accept them painted in black.
I agree they need some kind of paint, or protectant, or will the cast iron will quickly rust up.
