Ok, so the hearse has been bought, and just been delivered to the guy who will do the restoration

I am looking for the plate that Henney put on the hearses he built. If none are available, maybe I could get a good picture, and have a plate made.

As the restoration progresses, I will post pics.

Mike, I find this an interesting topic. I've certainly looked at dozens and dozens of restored Henney funeral vehicles and can't say I ever saw a Henney plate - but I wasn't looking for one either. What I was usually interested in was the Packard patent (vehicle number) plate which typically showed the sale by Packard was a chassis and numbered accordingly.

But almost certainly Henney affixed a plate somewhere. Did you try Pulfer & Williams to see if they have a Henney plate? P&W (now LaVine Restorations) made many of the original plates for various manufacturers and has a large selection of repro plates.pulferandwilliams.com/ Also, is there not a recently-published book available on the history of Henney? I thought so.

PS - another, perhaps better, possible source of information would the Professional Car Society - dedicated to funeral vehicles, limos, etc. They do have a website, perhaps a forum. I'll browse for it and post the link if I find it.

What year and chassis is your Packard-Henney? I had forgotten there is a table of estimated Henney production (based on highest known Henney #s) on Packard chassis in the Kimes-edited tome.

Something else in the footnotes to that chart, it confirms the 22nd Series Monte Carlo (though current thought is that it was based on a 23rd series chassis), a Henney product. For those who remember, this is one of the more mysterious of the postwar experimentals with info on it very elusive. Some have confused it with the pair of 52 Monte Carlos. Interesting what you find when you browse a book you haven't looked at in some years.

It is a 1939 Packard, body type 1701A, which has been made into a hearse. Judging by the pictures around, it HAS to be a Packard Henney hearse, and I would like a plate just to finish it off once the resto has been done.

1701A would be correct, that's the # for a commercial chassis w/o body tub. Packard's deal with Henney to supply chassis for funeral service vehicles was an exclusive arrangement by then, I believe.

Thanks for the picture. Is it only etched and paint-filled? If so you might ask DoorSills if he has made them in the past or can make one now. That's the company in Haledon NJ that is the original manufacturer of the repro metal door sills that are widely available from other retailers.

What's the base metal, if you know?

Did you check with LaVine (Pulfer & Williams) and the Professional Car Society as suggested for a source?

I have no idea what it is made of. I will check the other guys you have suggested

Just saw a Henney nameplate pretty close to what you are looking for. It is on an auction on eBay. I have had 3 Henney's myself one pre war and two post war. look it up and see if it is the one. Happy Hunting
