pilot bearing

I just git another 327 for my 53 Clipper after the stock 327 threw a rod. But this engine was out of an automatic car (I'm keeping the 3spd) so it doesn't have a pilot bearing in it. I'm gonna go get measurements later and order a bearing, burger I'm not sure if its a bearing or a bushing for these. Also, if anyone know the measurements for this?

Don't hold me to this, but I believe the pilot bearing is the same as the front generator bearing. This is a common bearing used for years and should be easy to find. You will need a fully shielded one - one packed for life. Is this true?

If you look at the parts book you will see that this bearing is unique, it is not the same part number as the generator bearing or any other Packard bearing. It is also unique to Packard, no other car uses this bearing. some aftermarket bearing books list the common 7109 bearing as fitting this application but they are in error. The commmon bearign is used 120- 22nd series small 8's and 6's. the unique bearing is used 23rd series small 8's thru 54th.

Thanks for the info! Does this mean I'll have a hard time finding one at the machine supply shop in town? They are cheap and right down the road from me... Is buying one from a retailer like Kanter the only option?
