Wasn't there a mention some time back that no paint code usually indicated a special order paint color/combo was done.

Hey Randy, My '51 Packard with Ultramatic has the exact same pedal for a windshield washer only mine's mounted where the clutch pedal would be on a stick shift car.

OK, the car was sold and the new owner looked me up via information on this site. He paid a good bit more than I offered and thinks more of the car than I did. He came to the local cruise last night and looked me up. He got the car running - I'll let him explain the details when he feels like posting. As is usual with Packard owners he is a good guy with a lot of interest in the car. Since he is local, I may be giving him a hand now and then. I'm glad someone got it who seems to have a lot of interest in it.
Let's wish him luck.

My guess is they used a 53 or 54 Packard for the conversion to stick overdrive (stick was not an option on any 56 Packard models)so they took the gas pedal when the took the column and clutch assembly. I always wondered why Packard did not use this gas pedal in 56 as they did in all models up through 55.

I don't know where you get your info, but it is not correct.
Under 3.202, part 458421 is the transmission case for the tranny used with OD. 3.148 lists the throwout bearing and sleeve for 5540-60 and all 56th models. 3.201 lists TRANSMISIION and OVERDRIVE ASSEMBLY for 5540-60 AND ALL 56TH. Why do you suppose they list all these parts? I don't mean to sound sarcastic but a little reading would uncover those facts.

Randy, I think some confusion comes from looking at the Regular Production Order (RPO) Codes as they've been constructed on this site. They show overdrive as not available in the Packard line. The also show TU as standard in the Packard line which kind of leaves the question about a legitimate option for standard shift in the Packard line. There WAS a Utica engine code for the Packard-line (except the Caribbean) built with a flywheel instead of a flex plate. But if a standard shift was a legit option for the Packard line, where is the production code for it?
I never have really seen this picture with complete clarity.

My copy of the Approved codes for 56th series April 11, 1956 4th revision Supersedes all others
"Transmission Manual Shift 5622-42-47-62-67-72A-77A-82-87-97-99 Symbol MS" "Transmission overdrive (used only with MS) 5622-42-47-62-67-72A-77A-82-87-97-99 Symbol OD" Image is from the flip chart Cormorant Autumn 1978

Roscoe, can we see an image of those Packard documents showing code "MS"? Perhaps I'm one of the few, but I've never seen that document.
