IIRC about 1908 or so a high power Stanley did 127+ mph at Daytona, more than twice what most conventional cars could do.
To my knowledge Packard never built a steam engine, or at least not one intended for an automobile.

The only one (non original) I've heard of is:
steamcar.net/phorum/read.php?3,781 I still remember my first ride in an early 1900's steam car owner by Louis Biondi. Was only about eight. Utterly quiet except for the chuf-chuf. A university put a Stanly steam engine on a dyno years back. If I remember correctly they were getting close to 80 Hp and 500 ft.-lbs. of torque from a 20 hp engine. Since the torque is developed at 0 rpm, acceleration is phenomenal.
