And yet more fun with used cars. Friends from Germany wanted to kayak the Gunpowder river and the pickup is still laid up, so the ever faithful 51 and 63 Daytona were pressed into service.

Stopped at Fanelli's Garage in Shenandoah PA on my way to Scranton to look at the 58 Packard that is on ebay just the moment. Fanelli was the Packard dealer in the then prosperous coal mining region from the mid twenties til 56. The building is now owned by buddy Mike who uses it for car storage. It has three floors served by a car elevator.

back of that stude looks similar to a 64 dodge dart.

i used to have a 64 dart and i kept the tail lights....alittle less chrome on them, but they look similar as well.

what did you ever do with that early 50s Packard that i showed you on ebay that ended up being a pile?

Nice atmospheric photo, Ross. Thanks for posting. Some old arch-work from prior doors/windows just visible beneath the white paint on the lower floor of the building.

A couple more "in service" photos. Was in wintry north central PA last week to look at a Kaiser Traveler. Tried out some snow covered back roads in the Thousanddollarwonder. Old girl did great.

Second photo was this afternoon when my buddy and I went to Carlisle to pick up a motorcycle he just bought. I can report that Torsion Level still levels the load and smooths the road.

Ross, when you made your faux Caribbean hood, did you happen to take any progress photos? Or sketches of the work? I have a spare hood I took off my 51 200 when I painted it, and it might be fun to do that conversion. It had about two pounds of Bondo in it, so I doubt if I could hurt it much.

Here are some shots of the hood process. I use 2 hoods to do it and end up with something much lighter and stronger than the "real" Carry-beans hood. No hood prop is necessary. I gently work the top hood layer with a hammer and dolly to sharpen the existing creases and then trim the edges of the top layer to fit the bottom hood. The top layer ends up sitting about 1.5" further to the rear than the bottom. In one of the photos you can see where I cut holes in the bottom hood to blow cool air down on the carb, and onto the approximate area of the air filter (cross the engine type).
