Dave,
I did just that on my 7th series distributor. Since I am not yet 'restoring' the 900, I was looking for an easier solution. I also thought that someone somewhere must still use these pins. Tom

Tom, I rebuild, restore lots of distributors and hunted for that rivet for a long time and never found it.
I make my own and it's quick and easy. Get a piece of 3/32 thin wall brass tubing (hobby shop or hdwr store), some brass escutcheon pins,#16 gauge, ie brads. Cut the tubing to the proper length, cut the pins to less then half the length of the tube. Tap one cut pin into the tube, install the new "rivet" and tap in the other pin. John

John,
That is a great solution. I will be trying it! Tom Quote:

You must have that shim but now, but I was at the Ace Hardware store I go every weekend and I remembered the shim you were looking for, Tom. They do indeed have a mylar (very tough to tear) washer that is 15/32 ID and 59/64 OD and .015 thick. 21 cents. Item # MRW-716. My motto is "dumb but lucky." Maybe someone knows the reason this would be dumb, but to me it seems to have the properties you needed.

Joe,
Dang, that would probably have worked great! Thank you for keeping me in mind! I did find some 26 thou phenolic sheet stock. Using some creative (aka not real bright) drill press techniques I was able to make the shim. Note: phenolic sheet is tough sheet to cut. Tom
