HH56, can't quite make out that first character, might it be a "B"? If so that looks like a Utica Plant trans number for a 1956 Clipper Super and probably the same code was used on the Executives. If the first character isn't an alpha between A and D, then I don't know what that # represents. I've also seen letters like initials stamped on the Twin cases at the rear and wondered if they were the initials of the assembler.
Here's a photo of 56 Caribbean trans #1107. See the "initials?" and also a second set of numbers to the right of the Utica trans#. I have no idea what the second set of #s denotes. The Utica trans #s also started at 1001 so this is the 107th 56 Carib trans, but that doesn't mean it went in Carib VN 1107.

It is a B 7032. Did come from a Clipper and there is a 5 point star ☆ to the left of it. I don't remember (or if I ever knew) what that star denotes unless it possibly means one of the late design separator plates was retrofitted.

Thanks for the clarification.
I have no idea what the star denotes. One of the TSBs did outline the transmission numbers for the different series at which certain changes were made, perhaps I should re-read it but I don't recall anything about markings on the trans itself. I have a "B"-series 56 trans out in the garage, I'll try to see what numbers it might have on it tomorrow.

To: J.R.P.III The post by bucketpackardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... orum=8&post_id=90022#forumpost90022 shows a casting date on the transmission. In lieu of a serial number, I doubt they made that many cases so far in advance that a year would change--other than there may be a gray area in mid to late year around model changeover time. That date might be a way to at least get close to the one you are looking for--

The main case casting is the same part number, I believe, all way from 1949 (23rd series) thru 1954 until the gear-start.
