That finish is what we used to call "goatskin", not sure if that's the proper name. My 54 Patrician had a two-tone painted dash (corresponding to the exterior two-tone paint) but didn't have that goatskin treatment, though I've seen it on other 53 Patricians.

Since the parts book specifically states grained with two choices on the 2402, 06, and 13 chassis for 51 I would think those were the goatskin seniors. Later year seniors also list a spcific grained but with other color options.
There is a single number for the 2401 chassis dash stamping which must have been plain metal to be painted in one of the 5 colors -- tan, blue, gray, black, maroon -- listed as interior for 51. I am curious if there was a plain(er) dash for 51 seniors because there is a second specific number listed as tan for 2402 and 2406 and no mention of graining so why apparently two tan dashes--unless maybe something for commercial. That dash shot in link to the 51 in Tucson almost looks like two colors -- maybe the blue gray & the Argentine gray -- one on dash and other on molding or is it just light and fading and they are the same??

Here (hopefully) is a shot of the interior of my red (originally maroon) '51. Although the shot is rather dark, the drivers door window from give a pretty good idea about the color throughout.

Definitely NOT what is on either of my '51 200 Deluxes! Having seen Stephen's pictures I have no trouble seeing why it was called goatskin and why I never needed to feel the skin of a goat to understand.
Actually, I like it. I also wouldn't mind having a '51 Packard Derham. Was anything like this produced after '51? I know about the Henny sedan conversions to Limos but I don't recall reading/seeing anything like the Derham after that. Looks like Packard's nod to the coach built cars of the '20s and '30s. Very nice. Obviously I can't read! I see that the pictures are titled '53 Derham. It's been a bad day!

Jim, Derham conversions were cataloged in 1953 and 1954, and it's alleged that one was built in 1955. I don't believe those in 1951 and 1952 were cataloged but could have been built with factory sponsorship.

If there was a 1955; would I ever love to see it - not to mention own it. It would make sense as I believe Henney closed up shop (at least for this kind of work) in 1954 so Packard would need someplace for a extreme prestige model.
