Hi Marty,

The paint is a Single Stage Urethane by ProSpray

Bill,

The shine was pretty much right out of the gun. But being a newbie at spraying I had some orange peel so I wet-sanded it out starting with 600 working my way up to 1500. Then from there I used a wool pad, an orange foam pad and I still need to hit the whole car with a black foam pad for final buffing.

If I where to spray another car I would purchase a bigger compressor so I can spray more then a few parts at a time.

Thanks gents for the comments.

Last weekend I sprayed a few coats of High Build primer on the rear fenders sanded that round down with some 180. Sprayed another two/three coats on Wednesday and today I started out with 180 then sprayed it with some cheapo black paint for a guide coat so I can see my progress while lightly sanding with 180 then 220. Sprayed another coat of guide coat and sanded that with 320 until the guide coat and 220 scratches were gone. Sprayed it once again with guide coat and this time sanded with 400 had some sand through to metal on the edges so I stopped there and hit the sand thorough areas with some epoxy.

Was hoping to get them sprayed today but will need to wait until tomorrow or during the week.

I was thinking of spraying the underside of the fenders with some Truck bed liner since the under sides are in pretty ruff shape. I figured that stuff would cover quit well and would help against chips.

Does anyone know what Packard used to spray the undersides of the fenders?

Packard used nothing on the underside but regular paint. Undercoating was an option later on.

Even till the very end, the front wheel wells were paint the same color as the fenders.

BigKev,

Thanks for the reply.

Guess I need to make a decision then. Spend time to get them looking half way decent or just go with the bed liner. Will I get bad vibes if I did so?

Not from me. I personally think it will help to protect the outside from an underside ding.

BigKev,

That is also the same thought I had. Plus it will help cover some of rust pot marks that are there now.

I probably could of spent more cash and had new ones made but you know how budgets go. Still need to get the bumpers chromed. Cha Ching :)

I would treat the existing rust, and prime them with some epoxy before the bed liner goes on.

Very bad advice.
I am heavily recommending to you: DO NOT use bedliner on your fenders. Your restoration up to this point is very well done. That would be a big mistake on a very high-profile area of your car. Don't cut corners at this point. Everything you do from here to the end is very visible. You were detailed with the stuff that can't be seen, keep up the good work.
